Park n' Prints

Hi lovelies! Finally some content that coincides with the seasons! I retired the summer outfits for now, and it's safe to say I caught that fall feeling during my walks to class. I live right outside of downtown Pittsburgh, but my neighborhood has a cozy feel, surrounded by parks and tons of historic architecture bursting with character. I'm usually (always) running (fashionably) late, so I don't have time to take in the views. However, I made it my mission to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and colorful leaves before the temps turn to freezing. This fall, I'm taking back everything I ever said about pairing brown and black together because I must say I can't get enough of this color combo. I wore this chocolate oversized blazer over a cropped cami with a houndstooth skirt and booties for a neutral look that is classic and chic, but with a modern twist. If you too want to style a timeless look with an updated hint, keep on reading...all you need is a park n' prints!

I feel like there are 2 types of people in this world—pants people and skirt people. As for me...well I think it is pretty obvious. Don't get me wrong, though, because I do appreciate a good pair of pants (and definitely own plenty), but there is something about a skirt or dress that keeps me wearing them on repeat, no matter the weather. Luckily, tights exist for days when skin exposure is not the style! Anyway, it's of no surprise that I couldn't resist getting this houndstooth mini skirt when I spotted it in the store. I love how it is fitted at the waist and hips to give you definition, but has that adorable flounce detail for a flirty touch. The belt also adds some interest without being too overbearing, because the skirt style and print is simple. Houndstooth is a print that so classic and quintessentially fall that is should be the official print of the season. As I mentioned before, I was never one who loved wearing black and brown together, but this skirt was cute enough to sway me! I must say that I am not stubborn when it comes to cute clothes!

Diamonds are definitely a girl's best friend, but so are blazers! Any time you are feeling uninspired by your wardrobe, just throw on a blazer and you'll instantly elevate any outfit. They add a touch of sophistication and are a power move in any situation. Every time I put on a blazer, I feel like I could take over a corporation or something, so I love that instant confidence. This blazer was actually my grandma's which makes me love it even more. It is a bit oversized on me, but the beauty of the modern-day blazer is that it doesn't have to be a perfect, tailored fit to make a statement. Blazers, fitted or oversized, will forever be all the rage for fashionistas as the ultimate layering piece because they are lightweight and give any outfit more dimension. While I've styled this skirt with a basic black shirt, I wanted to add warmth, both in color tone and literally, to the look. I probably own a blazer in almost every color, so comb those closets and look for a chocolate brown hue in your own blazer collection. It's guaranteed to make your ensemble look like perfection!

Lastly, we can't forget about the bags and boots! To break up the brown and make the look cohesive, I decided to carry my black Gucci bag. I'm not much of a thrifter, but again, I've gained a new perspective after snagging this find at an amazing price. Like a good blazer, Gucci stands the test of time, especially when holding all my junk day after day. The double "G" print is subtle and is the perfect bag to take on a sunny day...just look at the Gucci glisten!

Now let's talk texture as my croc booties take this look up a notch. Don't knock croc as it has been all over the magazine spreads as a fall '21 trend. I scored this Calvin Klein boots in the spring for a great price (at this point we know how I mostly always shop sale), and let me just say, I feel like I haven't taken them off since fall arrived. The neutral, caramel color goes with all the fall fits, the texture is to die for, and the heel makes these made for walking. If only I had these in every color!

I met a lot of Pittsburghers and pooches in my park adventure because I didn't realize I was shooting in the off leash area! I didn't experience too many furry photo bombers, though I wouldn't have minded if I did! This was my first "independent" shoot with my camera and it was definitely a learning experience. What I mean is that I didn't have Luke to take my pictures, and while he was greatly missed, I don't think they turned out too bad. My photographer doesn't travel so I foresee myself going solo for my city shoots! I think the biggest thing blogging has taught me is to not care what people think. I grew up dancing and performing, so I am not shy in that sense, but I know we can all think of situations that we feel awkward in. At one time, I would've felt so weird getting my picture taken amongst strangers, but now, I will do about anything for the perfect shot. I just smile and shoot! I am not going to lie because it still feels a bit odd and out of place, especially since I was completely alone. But, I made a few friends, got some fresh air, and most importantly, created content for theclosetcomber.com. The things I do for you (jk)! Comb those closets for boss blazers, walk in the park prints, and don't forget to throw on some confidence with all your looks! Have a great Thanksgiving—so thankful for all my readers! And, as always, Happy Closet Combing!
