New Year's Sparkle
Hey there, lovelies! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas this year. I was blessed to spend lots of time with family and am so grateful to have made more memories this holiday season. In fact, I was so busy being merry that I had to squeeze in this photoshoot and blogpost at the last minute because I promised you all a look for New Year's. Unfortunately, I was bummed out that I didn't have a super glamorous location that had disco balls and glitter everywhere, so I had to do a little improvising. My decorations are more suited for a photobooth, but, on the bright side, I have a whole year to plan for NYE 2019! To be honest, I have always been boring on NYE—I usually just watch the ball drop and play board games, but for all of you who have somewhere fun to be (or who want to be extra fancy when tuning into the NYE coverage on tv), then I have the outfit for you! I chose to wear a glitter pattern body con dress, a faux fur jacket, and some metallic heels that will have you stepping into 2019 on the right foot(wear)! This ensemble is perfect for New Year's Eve because sparkle is expected when ringing in a new chapter. However, I would not be sad if we made 2019 the year of glitter because I could get used to wearing this! I think NYE is such a fun time because it is a night where you can get as fancy and dolled up as you want, which is the absolute best way to end and begin a year. So, bust out the bubbly, grab your girls, and keep reading to achieve my New Year's sparkle!
Honestly, I did put a lot of effort into this shoot, though I was frustrated that I couldn't find a club atmosphere. I love Punxsutawney, but the only holiday suited for pictures is Groundhog Day! The reason I am still complaining is because, in the midst of my frustration, I didn't even think to take some pictures with my coat completely off. But, thankfully, pretty much all of the dress is visible, so you get the idea! Now, let's talk about this little number since it is sophisticated and classy, yet super fun and intriguing. The hemline of my dress hits about mid-thigh, balancing out the rather modest coverage around the bust. The length of this dress is ideal because it is short enough that it feels youthful and comfortable to move around in, but it is also long enough that you don't have to worry about it riding up when you are dancing the night away! Trust me, I wore this to a dance my senior year (wow that seems like it was ages ago), and I busted out my hardcore moves with zero wardrobe malfunctions! I love the silhouette, and the body con feature is more flattering than what you may think. It is true that this dress is extremely fitted, but it is the details that allow this dress to look great on every body. For example, the cap sleeve makes the arms appear thinner, the black base is slimming, and the pattern distracts from "problem" areas like the tummy. This dress hugs all of your curves, too! We should all throw our self-consciousness out the door in 2019 because people of all shapes and sizes need to be embraced! Love yourself, girl, and wear those fitted clothes! Lastly, I need to bring the sparkles to your attention, though I am sure that they were the first thing to catch your eye! This dress is different from the usual head-to-toe sequins because this is actually a glittery pattern. The design is intricate and delicate and makes this a multifunctional piece. I wore this dress for Christmas one year, to my Winter formal one year, and now hopefully to something exciting tonight (you know how to reach me if anyone is throwing a fun party)! Sparkle is a NYE tradition so comb those closets for anything that shines!
My coat became a fan favorite last winter when I styled it in one of my most popular posts to date. Because you guys loved it so much, I decided to wear it again with a dressier outfit. Plus, I know a lot of my readers live in colder climates, and we are unable to bare it all without a proper jacket to keep us warm. Again, I want to introduce you to my vintage pride and joy...my faux fur coat. This coat is from decades past, and every time I put it on, I like to imagine my life if it were based in the 60s/70s when this piece was in its prime. Call me crazy, but it is like stepping back in time, if only for a brief moment. Luckily, it is easy to find similar styles, even in what is almost 2019, because this garment has a lot of timeless characteristics. Black is obviously a color that is commonly used in outerwear, and fur never goes out of style! Well, real fur is most definitely not popular these days (and it shouldn't be—we need to respect our furry friends), but faux fur is in fact more fabulous and very chic! I love the texture faux fur adds to an outfit, and this particular faux fur is so cozy that I never want to take this coat off! Who knows, my apartment is so chilly back at college that I may just have to wear this around while I have my head in the books! The fur is just plush and luxurious! I did get a gorgeous faux fur throw from Santa, though, so I am ready for ya, winter 2019! Anyway, you can search for vintage (faux) furs in your closet, or maybe you live somewhere in which the sun is blazing, and in that case, send some rays my way!
You can't start the new year without a good pair of shoes! You want your entire outfit, down to your toes, to reflect your attitude for the upcoming 12 months. Before you lace up your sneakers to begin your resolutions, take advantage of this last hurray and wear the heels! I am a sucker for anything metallic, and these pointed-toe pumps are so slick that you can see your reflection in them! It is also a nice bonus that they match my festive headband and streamers! My favorite thing about heels, however, is that they make your legs look miles long! I am already quite tall (5'8" if you were curious), and that has never stopped me from wearing my stilettos. There is something about wearing heels that feels so empowering. I must warn you that despite how beautiful these shoes are, it never hurts to have some backup flats! I don't know about you, but I can only last a few hours in 4 inch heels! Depending on your plans, these could be the perfect pair. If you do have lots of dancing/standing in your agenda, you can opt for a shorter block heel, kitten heel, or pack a pair of emergency shoes if necessary! I don't know if I am the only one who brings emergency shoes places, but believe me, your feet will thank you! The life of fashionista, I guess!
It is hard to believe that I am typing up my last post of 2018! I am all for new beginnings, but I can't help but get sentimental! I live life with no regrets, and though it makes me a little sad to think another great year went by so so fast, I am beyond appreciative to say that am able to celebrate a new year. As I look back at 2018, I choose to learn from all of the negative things, and build upon all of the positive ones! This past year, I finished my first year of college, spent my first semester away from home, made new friends, caught up with old friends, put myself out there, laughed a lot, cried a little, and blogged my heart out! Don't be disappointed if you look back at 2018, because you didn't have to buy a house, get engaged, travel somewhere exotic, or make a bunch of money to feel fulfilled; even the smallest accomplishments matter! When it comes to 2019, I don't have any crazy resolutions—I just want to continue living life to the fullest, dreaming, loving, and succeeding! Do you guys have some resolutions set for the new year? Let me know in the comments! Also, please let me know if there are any specific looks or ideas you would like to see on the blog this year! Speaking of the blog, I better get back to talking about fashion! Comb those closets for glittery garments, furry coats, and shiny shoes that allow you to go out in style, saying bye to 2018, and hello to 2019! If you are too preoccupied sipping champagne (or sparkling grape juice my fellow friends under 21), then you can always shop my links because there are tons of after Christmas sales! I am wishing you all a happy, healthy, and successful New Year! See you in 2019, babes! Happy Closet Combing!
